Beyond-Use Dates for Compounded Products

The U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) published updates to the USP 797 on compounding sterile preparations in November 2022. Among the revisions are updates to the beyond-use dates (BUDs)

According to USP, beyond-use dates are, “the date, or hour and the date, after which a compounded sterile preparation (CSP) or compounded nonsterile preparation (CNSP) must not be used, stored, or transported.”

The BUD is determined from the date and time the preparation is compounded.
