On November 23, 2022, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published a final rule (87 FR 72293) that established Rural Emergency Hospitals (REHs) as a new Medicare provider type, effective January 1, 2023, and codified the Conditions of Participation (CoPs) that REHs must meet to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. The rule also established REH payment and enrollment requirements.
