On November 23, 2022, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published a final rule (87 FR 72293) that established Rural Emergency Hospitals (REHs) as a new Medicare provider type, effective January 1, 2023, and codified the Conditions of Participation (CoPs) that REHs must meet to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
