HHS Proposes Modifications to the HIPAA Privacy Rule

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is proposing changes to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule. The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) is accepting comments for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register. Highlights of the proposed changes include:

  • Addressing aspects of the rule related to an individual’s right of access
  • Decreasing the required response time for covered entities to respond
