One component of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 is a mandatory, one-time, 8-hour CME training on managing and treating opioid and other substance abuse disorders for all Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)-registered physicians and healthcare providers. This requirement is effective as of June 27, 2023.

A DEA registration is required to prescribe any controlled substance, so all providers prescribing controlled substances must complete this mandated training.
