Joint Commission Announces Elimination of Use of Term “Licensed Independent Practitioner”

The Joint Commission has announced that, effective February 19, 2023, the term “licensed independent practitioner” will be eliminated from for the hospital and critical access hospital programs.

According to TJC, the revisions are being made to be consistent with current terminology used by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) Conditions of Participation (CoPs).
