TJC Provides Overview of Closed-Loop Communication for Test Results

The Joint Commission’s (TJCs) Quick Safety 52 reviews how closed-loop communication of test results can advance patient safety.  According to TJC, diagnostic error is a serious safety issue; it occurs frequentlyand it can be both catastrophic and costly.  In the report, TJC uses The National Academy of Medicine’s definition of diagnostic error: “…the failure to (a) establish an accurate and timely explanation of the patient’s health problem(s) or (b) communicate that explanation to the patient.”
