Last December, The Joint Commission (TJC) announced the elimination of the term “licensed independent practitioner” for their hospital and critical access hospital programs. TJC is continuing with their terminology update and will be eliminating the term “licensed independent practitioner” for their ambulatory health care and officed-based surgery programs, effective August 27, 2023.
