A recent letter describing case reports of Hansen’s disease (leprosy) in central Florida suggests that the infection may be endemic to the region.

According to the letter, published in the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s August 2023 Emerging Infectious Journal, Florida has been home to an increased incidence of leprosy cases: 81% of cases reported in Florida, and one fifth nationally, were from Central Florida.
