The Joint Commission (TJC) recently released its report of the top most-reported sentinel events in 2023. Wrong site sentinel events tied for the second most-often reported event - 8% of reported events. According to TJC, wrong surgery includes wrong site, wrong procedure, wrong patient, and wrong implant events. In 2023 there were 112 sentinel events classified as wrong surgeries which is a 26% increase from 2022.
