The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a memorandum reviewing changes to COVID-19 survey activities and increased oversight in nursing homes, effective immediately. With these changes, CMS is intending to assist State Survey Agencies (SAs) in addressing the backlog of complaint and recertification surveys in nursing homes. While the memorandum is intended for State Survey Agency Directors, nursing homes should be aware of changes to their Medicare surveys.
