According to a new alert from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. blood supply is safer than it has ever been. However, a small risk of sepsis after transfusion remains. A joint CDC/FDA investigation has identified 7 linked cases of sepsis after transfusion from bacterially contaminated platelet blood products since 2018.
