In response to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Public Health emergency (PHE) and under its authority pursuant to section 1135 of the Social Security Act (Act), the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) granted temporary emergency blanket waivers and implemented additional flexibilities for providers and suppliers which were intended to provide Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC), hospitals, home health agencies, and others with flexibility to respond to the COVID-19 PHE.
