Joint Commission Clarifies Ligature Risk Requirements

The Joint Commission has issued a response to a recent news story that TJC believes does not fully and accurately represent TJC requirements. In their response, TJC clarifies that their standards aimed at reducing ligature risks in hospitals do not require:

  • Removal of bathroom doors
  • Use of paper gowns
  • Removal of all artwork from walls
  • Removal of televisions or remote controls
  • Specific types of sheets, comforters or blankets that can or cannot be used
  • Installed above-door sensors/
