The Joint Commission has issued new and revised requirements for the Patient Blood Management Certification Program, effective January 1, 2021.  The changes have been implemented to better align TJC’s Patient Blood Management (PBM) program with the AABB’s Standards for a Patient Blood Management Program, third edition.

According to TJC, changes address:

  • “Patient blood management for pediatric, obstetric and single-unit transfusion patients.
  • Informed consent for individuals who decline
