Maternal Mortality Rates Climbed in 2021

According to a newly released report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), maternal mortality rates saw a significant increase between 2020 and 2021. The World Health Organization defines maternal death as “the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and the site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management, but not from accidental or incidental causes.”
